Brian J. Hartigan, M.D.

Dr. Brian Hartigan is a Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon concentrating on the diagnosis and treatment of trauma to and conditions of the upper extremity, including the hand and wrist. His areas of special interest include upper extremity fractures, arthritis of the thumb, hand/wrist trauma, and upper extremity reconstructive procedures. He is on staff at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Children’s Memorial Hospital, Glenbrook Hospital, Evanston Hospital, St. Joseph’s Hospital, Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago, and River North Same Day Surgery Center.

Dr. Hartigan was honored to receive the James K. Stack Teacher of the Year Award in 2004 from the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. He is an active participant in many prestigious medical societies, including the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American Society for Surgery of the Hand. He has published numerous chapters as well as research articles in journals such as the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, The Journal of Hand Surgery, and the Journal of Orthopaedic Trauma. He has presented research at meetings and conferences around the world.

Dr. Hartigan received his medical degree from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri, and completed his residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. After finishing a Hand Surgery fellowship in Cincinnati, Ohio, he joined the faculty at Northwestern University where he now serves as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Orthopaedic Surgery and Educational Coordinator for the Combined Orthopaedic and Plastic Surgery Hand and Upper Extremity Service.
